Abstract: Cryonics and Twilight Saga: A Legal and Allegorical Perspective
There is no such thing as a mere coincidence in twilight and cryonics: both evoke images of cold and frozen stasis and are engaged with notions of body autonomy, ultimately the reminiscence of cold (vampires, indeed, are called “the cold”) and the desire of eternal life. Moreover, Twilight encapsulates a unique relational paradigm between mortal human beings and the immortal supra-human beings, the vampires. Within the discourse of life and death narratives, this research paper explores why the Twilight Saga may offer a compelling yardstick to understand the cultural, ethical, and legal dimensions of cryonics. In essence, the Twilight saga permits us to reflect on “foundational” questions within contemporary legal discourse in the context of cryonics.
