Abstract: Deprived of Community. Homeland, Republic, Citizenship
After a long period of eclipse, terms like Homeland and Nation are coming back forcefully – and uncritically – to the center of political discourse. They are almost always used as synonyms, while their stories are very different. Both somehow express nostalgia for a lost community dimension. This can perhaps only be recovered today within republican homelands that are founded on citizenships made up more of duties rather than rights.
