Abstract: From Medicalization to Human Enhancement
After clarifying the concept of “human enhancement”, the paper argues that enhancement constitutes a coherent development of medicine in the second half of the twentieth century, a period marked by extensive medicalization processes. Through a conceptual analysis of structural continuities − expansion of the concept of “health”, normalization of biomedical intervention, and technological continuity between therapy and enhancement − it demonstrates how enhancement emerges from logics already operative in contemporary biomedicine.
