Abstract: The Right to Health Protection and the Challenge of Equity
The main objective of this essay is to provide an account of the current debate on the issue of health equity, concluding that equity implies acting on health inequalities that are remediable – whether they have a social origin or a natural one – and arguing that health equity is not an isolated aspect of social justice, but is interdependent with and inseparable from its other dimensions. To this end, I deemed it necessary to start from the very concept of health as an object protected by law. I devoted the first part of my presentation to this issue. In the second part, I addressed the debate on equity.
