Abstract: No One Can Heal Alone. Biolaw Perspectives on Psychology in Service of the Community
This article examines the relationship between mental health, community and law, through an interdisciplinary approach integrating philosophical, (bio)legal, and psychological reflections. After outlining the definitional and multifactorial complexity of mental illness, it explores the community as both a natural and social resource, emphasizing its role in prevention and care. Special attention is given to Stanley Murrell’s theory of the “complex man” and his concept of intersystemic accommodation, framing well-being as a dynamic balance between individual life projects and social systems. In this context, self-help groups are analyzed as micro-communities of empowerment and mutual support. The paper concludes by discussing the Italian citizens’ initiative “Diritto a Stare Bene” (“Right to Well-Being”), which exemplifies the application of community psychology principles in public policy to make psychological well-being a universal right.
