Abstract

This comparative studies on the economic thought of Antonio Rosmini and Wilhelm Röpke shows a surpri-sing similarity in main theoretical concepts between both thinkers and argues thus for characterizing Rosmi-ni’s economic thought as a certain “procursor” of the ordoliberal school and the social market economy. The central issues of the analysis are the ideas of competition and free market within a juridical framework, the role of the state as arbitrator and through “market conform interventions”, and the importance of a value-based idea of individual liberty.
