Abstract
The exchange of letters between Filangieri and Franklin, only partly rediscovered, and now
organically and systematically published on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification
of Italy, indicates a dual political influence: on the one hand, the influence that the political and
social thought of the American revolutionaries, first of all Franklin and Jefferson, exercised on the
development of the Science of Legislation and that today may be useful for a more comprehensive
reading and understanding of the same; on the other, the contribution that the Neapolitan
philosopher intended to, and actually gave, in laying the foundation of the New Country United
States of America.
