Abstract: IA(D). Artificial Intelligence and Psychological Well-being
The exploitation of Artificial Intelligence (IA) by digital platforms could seriously damage the psychological well-being of users, diminishing their cognitive/attentional resources, favoring their isolation and their dependence (IAD). On the other hand, IA proffers manifold benefits in the realm of mental health, such as providing timely interventions through virtual therapists and chatbots. Moreover, machine learning algorithms can discern subtle shifts in behavior and language indicative of mental health issues, facilitating prompt diagnosis and intervention. Hence, this essay delves into the intricate relationship between AI and mental health, accentuating both the potential advantages and the ethical, societal, and technical hurdles that ensue.
