Abstract: Dialogues of Zero: Mathematics as Intellectual Pedagogy
The essay reconstructs the chapter dedicated to zero in Francesco Carnelutti’s Dialogues with Francesco. In a passionate dialogue with his grandson Francesco, Carnelutti guides us, through the analysis of the most elementary notions of mathematics, to the progressive understanding of some of basic structures of knowledge and reality. Wrapped in a delicate and profound affection, the dialogue takes us through the passages that, from the immediacy of our experience, open up a universal perspective that never loses touch with the concrete uniqueness of each human being.
