Abstract: Are Ants “Nomic Insects”? A Contribution to the Ethology of Normativity
In recent years, a new field of research has emerged: ethology of normativity. However, the investigation of animal normativity until now has been mainly focused on non-human primates and cetaceans. This paper aims to extend this research to the world of social insects and, more specifically, to the world of ants. Ethology suggests new perspectives to the philosophy of normativity, in relation also to the study of human normativity and the evolutionary roots of normative abilities.
