Abstract: Restorative post-conflict justice. Desmond Tutu and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission chaired by Desmond Tutu still represents the main attempt to pursue post-conflict justice with restorative methods and is an alternative to the retributionist models typical of ‘ad hoc’ and international Courts.
Through the instrument of the amnesty granted to those who had made full confession of the crimes committed during apartheid, the TRC was able to bring out an overall historical truth that favored the possibility of social reconciliation in South Africa.
