Abstract: Between Order and Chaos. The State of Exception in Carl Schmitt

Souverän ist, wer über den Ausnahmezustand entscheidet. This contribution, having taken note of the emotional and evocative impact of the suggestive image expressed by the incipit of Carl Schmitt’s Political Theology and the consequent wide diffusion in the works of the pandemic period, proceeds to a reconstruction of the authentic meaning that Carl Schmitt wanted to attribute to the concept, through a careful reading of his work. This is to grasp its original meaning and, therefore, understand if and to what extent the citations that enriched the various contributions that appeared in this period, respected Schmitt’s thought.
