Abstract: The Corruption between Digital Memory and the Right to Be Forgotten
In our contemporary Information society, individuals are basically recognized through their digital identity. This entails a growing need for the citizens to seek protection against misleading representations of their identity, especially against the data coming from a search engine. This paper deals with the boundaries of the right to be forgotten (or the right to erasure), with a particular focus on the crime of corruption – defined as the Capital Sin of democracy. What will be investigated is the balance between the right to be forgotten after committing a crime, even a hideous one as corruption, and the public interest to be in the known.
