Abstract
“Political theology” is an exression in common use throughout the philosophical debate.
This expression refers, currently, to what is considered as an autonomous field of research.
However, this “discipline” still lacks of the precise definitions of its object and its method. In the essay by Carl Schmitt that is considered the starting point of the contemporary studies around this subject, “political theology” is explicitly defined through an analogy. Our thesis is that a clarification of the role and the definition of “political analogy” can be found in the works of Giorgio Agamben and in his development of this analogy: political theology appears on that ground not as a discipline with a definite object, but rather as a field of relationships without ontological reference, to be discovered through an “archeological” method.
